Teaching Responsibility

We have forgotten what it’s like to be irresponsible.

We take out-of-context examples from adult life where there is no teacher involved and say, ‘That’s what the real world is like.’ Forgot to pay your phone bill on time? There’s a late fee for that. I hate to break it to you, but the phone company is not trying to teach you to be responsible. They are adding a fee because you weren’t responsible.”

From Russ Goerend’s blog Learning. Life.

Why does it drive me so crazy that Russ was able to put into clear language what I have been thinking for years?  I’m still considering a series of blog posts tagged “WIWI” (wish I wrote it).
